SIDEWINDER - Atlantis (Lp)

30 years after its original release we’re proud to present here on vinyl for the very first time – the debut album from Sidewinder – ‘Atlantis’.

With their origins in the nation’s capital in the early 90’s –Sidewinder enjoyed a groundswell of public adoration and alternative radio play which elicited a move to Sydney in February 1995 – part of a rising tide of local indie bands riding a similar, hard-earned wave of success.

Soon, Sidewinder caught the attention of Mercury Records with whom the band eventually signed amid competition from others.

In mid-1995, armed with an unlimited recording budget and twelve new songs, Sidewinder entered one of Sydney’s a-list Studios, 301. Overseen by engineer/producer Tom Blaxland (who had worked with The Church to Rick Price to You Am I) and plenty of days to get the songs down, the band opted instead to put down on tape the entire album live in the studio with, at most, one or two overdubs (handclaps and a tambo track) and soon unleashed the album in early 1996 – with a commitment to extensive touring through the year including the Big Day Out and touring with Powderfinger, The Fauves and Custard.

From the folky strains of Stones In My Shoe through to the kick-in-the-guts mathrock crunch of Down To Luck and the instantly addictive riff-pop single Evil Eye, Atlantis has Sidewinder really delivering the goods.’

Three singles were released from the record: ‘Anything You Want’, ‘Evil Eye’ and ‘Not Coming Home’.

Curated in collaboration with Sidewinder and mastered for vinyl by Don Bartley at Benchmark – we’re proud to present the album on white vinyl to celebrate it’s landmark 30th birthday in 2026.
