Originally released as an EP in 1995 and expanded into a full-length LP in 1997-with a bonus cut added in 2000-The Cenobites LP features gritty tracks with abstract lyricism, surreal sci-fi imagery, and jazz-infused, unconventional beats. Highlights include Kool Keith's high-pitched, experimental flow (under his Rhythm X alias) and Godfather Don's distinctive production-marked by heavy horn samples and hard-hitting drums. This release became a touchstone for fans of raw, boundary-pushing hip-hop.
