The Fearless Flyers V marks the return of Cory Wong, Mark Lettieri, Joe Dart and Nate Smith with a tight blend of instrumental funk that is both energetic and refined. Across eight tracks and around thirty minutes, the album delivers precise, radiant grooves that stay true to the band's foundations while adding fresh colors: disco inflections on Exotic, a blues and soul touch on SKOM, a near-rock progression on Autobahn, and more contemplative moods on Ventura and Anaheim, the latter closing the record with radiant softness. The crisp, carefully crafted production highlights the musicians' understated virtuosity and their subtle balance between rhythmic precision and creative freedom. Neither a repetition nor a rupture, this fifth chapter asserts the Flyers' maturity and their ability to expand their universe without losing their identity, resulting in a short yet intense record that will appeal both to funk purists and lovers of instrumental adventures.
