As the earth turns toward a colder era and humansstruggle to adapt to a bleaker autumn breeze, a newmusic shivers in the shadows. There stand WeatheredStatues. The group convened in early 2017 in Denver,Colorado, with three members having previouslyperformed together in the post-doom outfit Cloak ofOrgans (along with members of Planes Mistaken for Starsand Wovenhand).Weathered Statues convened at Module Overload Studiosin Denver over the summer of 2017 to record with JamieHillyer (engineer of Green Druid's Ashen Blood). Analbum, Borderlands, coalesced, drawing on the grimfuturism of the past: the barren darkness of SkeletalFamily, the metallic abrasion of Killing Joke, the crystallineghostliness of Siouxsie and the Banshees, the icydreaminess of Xmal Deutschland, and the hollow fragilityof early New Order. Then Lol Tolhurst, co-founder of TheCure, agreed to remix Corpse Candle, the opening trackof Borderlands, infusing it with a sleek dance pulse, whileKeith Curts of industrial duo Echo Beds added synthesizerto the album's slashing final track, Holy Masquerade.
