Back in 62, when he was only 18, the late great NATHANIEL MAYER had a top 40 hit for Detroits Fortune Records (also the home of mr. dirty Andre Williams) with Village Of Love.??More great rhythm & blues singles like Leave Me Alone and I Had A Dream followed, but those failed to duplicate the success of Village Of Love and after a few years Nathaniel and Fortune Records parted ways.??Soon Nathaniel would stop performing as well and started roaming the streets of East Detroit. In his absence from the stages the stories about him got wilder and wilder only to make his legend larger.??In 2002 - 35 years later! - a couple younger Detroit musicians bumped into Nathaniel at some bar and convinced him to jam with them.??Nathaniel, backed by the Fabulous Shanks (with members of the Detroit Cobras), started playing shows again, and after a few years released the brilliant CD I Just Want To Be Held on Fat Possum Records, which even got him to tour with The Black Keys.??The 3 tunes on this Stardumb 7 (including the brilliant John Lennon cover I Found Out) are taken from this record and were issued here for the first time on vinyl in this hand numbered limited edition of 1,000.??Later the full album got reissued on vinyl too and two more albums followed on Alive Records.??Within a year after completing his first European tour, he suffered multiple strokes.
