TIDES

SARCHASM is a Berkeley, California-based?indie punk band, formed in 2010. Dedicated?to radical social justice, tolerance, and unity?in the greater DIY punk community and?armed with a commitment to all ages shows?and safer spaces, SARCHASM has spent?the past few years spreading their emotive?alt-punk tunes up and down the West Coast?and east as far as Gainesville, Florida for?The Fest 15. SARCHASM's discography?includes two self-released efforts, an EP?out via Oakland's VLE Records released in?2016. With all members juggling college,?young adulthood, and institutionalized?oppression, this scrappy, heart-on-your'annel-shirt-sleeve trio shows no signs of?stopping anytime soon!?The Tides EP was originally conceptualized?as a 6-song album to be released on VLE?Records, anchored around a 3-part suite?consisting of Tides I, Tides II, and Tides?III. However, after careful consideration, it?was ultimately decided by the band and the?label to pull the three Tides songs off of the?original release and save them for a future?time when they could be released on their?own, leading to SARCHASM's frst and only?release on VLE Records, Challenger (July?2016). The recording features the three?founding band members, Alex Botkin on?bass and lead vocals (NUNS WITH GUNS,?THE SEWER TROUT EXPERIENCE), Mari?Campos on guitar and vocals (924 Gilman?Head of Sound, IMPOSTERS, LAWN CHAIRS),?and Stevie Seligman on drums and vocals?(BABY BUSH, FORGET IT.). Additionally, the?EP features prior member Grayson Capili on?guitar and backing vocals.?This 3-song vinyl EP on 1986'd Music?Industries gives the Tides suite the platform?it deserves. Written to stand alone as a?continuous narrative and a foray into an?uncharted, nuanced musical direction?for SARCHASM, Tides represents a?progression in SARCHASM's songwriting,?both lyrically as well as sonically. The?EP starts out with sleeper, swelling epic?Tides I, SARCHASM's longest and most?ambitious piece to date. It is followed by?Tides II, a driving, folk-punk inspired?live favorite. The EP ends with Tides III,?a nostalgic, retrospective, gang-vocalled acoustic piece.
