Limited Edition Red Vinyl. Sometimes you hear new songs that sound like old songs. Somehow, you've heard these songs before - in a good way. They've been part of your rock and roll lexicon for eons and you just don't know how they got there, which radio station you first heard them on, or even which year they first emitted from. That's what Detroit-based singer-writer Nick Piunti does best, and almost better than anybody. Writing songs that dig in your skull, like that literal ear worm from the old Star Trek film from the 80s, burrowing deep into the vast stacks of your mind records, and finally sets up shop. Nick's new album, Down Time, continues his sonic assault, this time with his new band, The Complicated Men - Ron Vensko (drums), Kevin Darnall (keys) and Jeff Hupp (bass) - musicians assembled from veteran Detroit rock outfits. He also gets a little help from Ryan Allen (Thunderbird are Go! And Extra Arms) and Chris Plum (Mood Elevator and Brendan Benson). Affirmatively more raucous than his previously well-received, and national Best of and XM Radio Coolest Song in the World solo outings, Down Time finds the gravel voiced Piunti in a mood. A loud mood. Over ten tracks, the band barrels through timeless break up anthems and the occasional grateful ballad to deliver this year's audiophile own self-questioning critique; How did I miss this guy's records' Oh - and if you don't check it out on limited-edition vinyl, then that's on you.
